Brides looking to have a chic, farm wedding should head to Gedney Farm in the Berkshires. The New Marlborough area is filled with gorgeous scenery, charming B&Bs, and is the perfect retreat outside of both major cities of Boston and NYC making it a great place to host the perfect wedding weekend.

New Marlborough, MA is located in the lower Berkshires and is comprised of several hills and valleys between the Housatonic & Farmington Valleys. When driving around the area you will see a historic village city center, rolling landscapes, and farms with those picturesque stonewalls.

Not only are The Berkshires perfect for hiking, walking and biking, but the area offers many activities for every visitor, no matter the season. Jiminy Peak Ski Area is great in the winter for skiing and snowboarding, but also for biking & fishing when the weather is a bit nicer. The area is also home to Kripalu, a center for yoga and health. They offer courses and programs all year ’round. Tanglewood is home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the summer, offering pop and jazz performances under the stars. The area is also home to a number of art centers and museums like the Norman Rockwell Museum, Berkshire Museum, The Clark Art Institute, and Mass Moca. There are plenty of activities for wedding guests to enjoy a wonderful weekend in the Berkshires celebrating your love.

Gedney Farm

As a Berkshires wedding photographer, Gedney Farm is one of my favorite farm wedding venues to photograph at. Gedney Farm is kind of a secret , undiscovered by most, but once visited, is hard to forget! The property is home to two Gilded Era barns set against 37 acres of lush meadows & open pastures. Gedney Farm includes 16 guest rooms & suites in the former cattle barn. Across the courtyard is the former horse barn, offering three levels of event and wedding space. The top two levels, the main level & loft level open up onto each other making the space a fun place to photograph & to get unique angles of first dance and the evening reception. The events barn is also air conditioned, perfect for those New England summers, and your hair. The barn can accommodate up to 250 seated guests with a band & sizable dance floor.

First Look, Wedding at Gedney Farm

Gedney Farm has so many unique spaces and corners for a wedding first look. For Chrissy and Spencer’s wedding I chose the courtyard between the two barns to have this first moment. I love how the space is secluded and feels really intimate. We followed the first look with family photos, making it an easy spot for family and friends to gather.

Wedding Ceremony at Gedney Farm

Guests are welcomed in the courtyard between the two barns and process up the hill, roughly 300 yards, to the gorgeous oak tree in the meadow beyond. The oak tree is a classic twist to the farm wedding, providing a peaceful space to say, I Do!” I do suggest providing your guests with Soulmates. Their shoes will be ever so grateful.

Wedding Cocktail Hour

After the ceremony, lead your guests back down the hill to the gorgeous back lawn of the main barn. Have a gorgeous cheese platter & aperitifs waiting for your guests to start the reception! Towards the end of your cocktail hour, I suggest sneaking away to do some couple’s wedding pictures at the cattle house overlooking the two barns.

After the cocktail hour, welcome your guests into the chic, elegant barn for a fun night of dancing and great food (in the air conditioning). There is plenty of space for guests to enjoy a sit down dinner as well as a sizable dance floor to dance into the late night hours!
